Hey there, I’m Philipp Fernandez
A wildlife and conservation photographer based in Mainz, Germany.
What is my goal?
Combining my job as a molecular biologist with my work as a conservation photographer, I aim to showcase reasons why we should protect this world and the people trying exactly that.
Complex interconnections, the concept of entire ecosystems, and the importance of research to preserve them—combining photography and science gives me deeper insights, alternative perspectives, and fresh creativity in both fields.
Conservationists are working all over the world to preserve this beautiful place we call Earth. Most of them are doing this on an unpaid basis and under extreme risks for themselves.
Considering this, it's even more shocking to me that they often don't get the attention and support they deserve.
I will change this.

My Motivation
Why do I love shooting photos so much?
Photography gives me joy in so many ways.
Firstly, being a molecular biologist means that I have to work in a laboratory for hours on end. Although it is a satisfying and very productive work, it is also, by it's nature, extremly uncreative. There are so many steps to follow and so few ways to use your creativity. Therefore, photography is a great way to live out and explore this creative side of mine.
Secondly, photography always brings new people in my life, which I enjoy very much. Clients, other photographers and random people on the street, everybody seems to like this hobby. As a logic consequence, talking with other people about photography is almost allways a nice situation.
Lastly, in this modern time of ours, I often get the feeling we rush through any area, spot or location. Be it in our everyday life or on vacation, our world offers so many beautiful details and places, we just have to notice them. Photography helps me develope an awareness for these little spots.
Environmental protection
My fascination with the natural world deepened during my backpacking time through Western Canada, inspiring me to apply my biology studies towards environmental conservation. This decision led me to volunteer in 2023 with a local reforestation NGO, contributing to the planting of over 16,000 trees in two years—a small step towards a healthier planet.
As I continue my studies, I look forward to integrating my academic knowledge, passion for photography, and commitment to environmental protection in future projects around the globe. It's a modest effort to combine my interests to make a positive impact on our world.
Join me as we explore the wonders of nature and work together for its preservation.
